Great Grandparents!

There must something about becoming a grandparent - the kids (me, for example), who have been so loved and potentially spoiled for their entire lives, are pushed onto the back burner in favor of the "grandchild." They ask how you are doing as an afterthought. They demand pictures....weekly. If becoming a grandparent is great, it must be that much better to be a great grandparent, right?

We had the opportunity to visit with my maternal grandparents - Nana and Bop-bop - this last week. They flew in from Albuquerque, made it through the Salt Lake City airport in one piece, rented a car, and spent many hours laughing at the antics of our little Morgan. It was such fun watching them interact with her and in turn to watch her become more comfortable with their presence by the end of the week. They took tons of pictures, which will be coming to the blog in several weeks.

Wednesday afternoon found us at the zoo - Morgan's first zoo experience! I don't think she saw many of the animals, but she had a good time watching people from the front of her stroller.

I loved the fact that at the beginning of the week, Bop-bop suggested a visit to the zoo. "Then I can get a hot dog!" he exclaimed. He was like a kid! I wasn't sure if there were hot dogs to be found at the zoo, but Zoo Boise didn't disappoint us.

Morgan also drove her first car, a safari humvee from Africa.

And, of course, a photo of Nana and her long lost relatives. (There is a monkey in the background) Ha!

Happy Birthday, Dear Chadwick, Happy Birthday to You!

Happy birthday, Chadwick! Thirty-one years young and still going strong. I am so grateful that you were born in a time when we could find one another!

We had a mini celebration that evening (Steve and Nancy joined us for dessert) and will have one with the rest of the family this afternoon. He came down with a head cold on Wednesday so we decided to keep it low-key. My mom sent him a cookie bouquet at work and for dinner we ate lasagna with French bread! Yum. Pillsbury and I worked together to create a chocolate cake to accompany our ice cream. Complete with candles! He was kind enough not to blow them out and spread his cold germs in the process...

Morgan didn't like the ice cream I offered her to celebrate. Too cold.

Many of his family members called to wish him happy birthday. When his twin, Stephen, called my phone, I happily chatted with him for a moment before passing him to Chadwick. It didn't occur to me until later in their conversation that it was also Stephen's birthday as well. So happy belated birthday, Stephen!

Here's to many more!!
